Another knitting stitch you will often encounter in our collection is piqué – also called Marcella. Piqué is the collective name for various knitting stitches that result in fabrics with a prominent structure or relief on the surface. Often, this relief takes the form of geometric patterns, such as moss stitch, checks, waffles or a honeycomb structure. Due to these patterns, piqué is somewhat thicker, stronger and stiffer than single jersey, but that also means the fabric is durable, wrinkle-free and shape-retaining. Besides, piqué fabrics are still soft, light and breathable.
Piqué is usually knitted from cotton, sometimes in combination with elastane or technical yarn to ensure a stronger fabric. Due to the sturdy quality of piqué, the fabric has a more formal appearance than single jersey, but still looks casual and sporty. Therefore, it is very suitable for leisure- and sportswear and you will mainly find it being used for polo shirts. Nowadays however, many young professionals also wear a piqué shirt or longsleeve jumper to the office.
